Frequently Asked Questions
Does my child need therapy?
It can often be tough as parents to decide whether to prioritise speech therapy or to 'wait and see'. However, the research shows that starting speech therapy early is far more effective than starting later in many cases. This is why we recommend that you contact us for a free 15-minute consult so we can better assess your situation. From there, we can advise having an assessment or monitoring your child for a certain period of time before we re-evaluate.
Where do you offer services?
Bloom Speech Therapy is based in Amsterdam. We are a mobile service that delivers therapy in clients' homes, schools, childcare centres or online. We generally see clients based in Amsterdam or Amstelveen. However, we may be able to travel to other cities such as Utrecht or Den Haag depending on the day. We may also be able to see your child at school/preschool. We are currently established in the International School Utrecht, but may also be able to set up therapy at other schools/preschools.
Alternatively, we are very experienced in delivering online therapy and can offer this option if you live further away. Please contact us to see what options are available for you.
What does a typical speech therapy session look like?
Therapy sessions can be very different depending on circumstances such as the client's age, location and goals. Most sessions will be 30-45 minutes of face-to-face time, including handover to the parent/caregiver where applicable. We strive to make therapy sessions as fun and motivating as possible and will make changes if activities or goals are not working.
How long will therapy take?
This is a difficult question to answer as it depends heavily on factors such as the goals being targeted, frequency of therapy and level of commitment to practising outside therapy. However, we can provide a clinical recommendation about the frequency and duration of sessions after your initial assessment or consultation.
What are your fees and payment options?
We offer a range of options for assessments and therapy. Therapy sessions start at € 70 and we are happy to send you our current fee schedule upon enquiry. We take payment by direct bank transfer/iDEAL.
Will my health insurance cover my visit?
Dutch health insurance may partially cover speech therapy sessions, but this is not guaranteed. Clients are responsible for paying the therapist directly and where applicable, submit therapy invoices to insurance companies for reimbursement afterwards. Please contact us for a handout with more details about this.
Do I need a referral to see a speech pathologist?
No, you do not need a referral before your assessment - simply contact us and we can go from there. However, if you are looking to claim sessions through your health insurance, we highly recommend seeing a GP/huisarts for a referral before your assessment to avoid future difficulties. School doctors may also be able to provide referrals.
Where are your reviews/testimonials?

In short, we are ethically obligated not to provide, solicit, or engage with testimonials or reviews for our practice.
